Diane Sawyer reported on national television about the large number of children in this very prosperous nation who lived with hunger, or ‘food insecurity,’ that report inspired me to do this relief I call “Poor Joe”. It is based in part on a mid-19th century photograph by Oscar G. Rejlander taken in England. Although the problem of hunger is widespread, few people seem to be concerned about it and the victims remain as faceless as Joe who hides his head in his hands as he weeps in sorrow. 20” x 22” 2” deep
