Gully

Asheville is famous for its music and nightlife, especially the large as drumming gatherings of musicians and dancers. One of these performers, Gully, learned the art of drumming at an early age from his Caribbean relatives. He plays with such skill and ease that I find it fascinating to listen to Gully and to watch him at work. I have tried to portray the sense of rapture in which Gully plays, moving his hands swiftly yet softly, as he gives voice to his drum. Pastel 10” x 14”
